About The Position

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting Medium Voltage Switchgear development projects. This role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration with Eaton’s engineering and operations teams to ensure successful product release and to support all industrialization requirements for customer orders. The ideal candidate will drive product realization, industrialization, and release activities for product assemblies, ensuring alignment with business and customer objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum Five (5) years of engineering experience

  • Technical expertise in mechanical engineering design, product release processes, and industrialization support for switchgear or similar products
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (e.g., AutoDesk Inventor) and PLM tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with sheet metal enclosure and panel design for electrical assemblies
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, specifically Enovia
  • Minimum Three (3) years of engineering experience with new product development or design, preferably in Medium Voltage products
  • Experience in model-based design and simulation techniques for various aspects of system design including thermal management, dielectric, advanced mechanical systems and reliability
  • Practical application of Design for Six Sigma
  • Experience with product industrialization, including process validation, manufacturing support, and customer order fulfillment

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute design projects, ensuring compliance with internal processes and standards
  • Work closely with the engineering team to coordinate design activities, resolve technical issues, and facilitate knowledge sharing for products
  • Organize team and lab support personnel in the execution of complex system tests at low and medium voltage
  • Collaborate with the operations team to support seamless product release and industrialization for customer orders, addressing manufacturability and assembly requirements
  • Drive and manage product releases in product lifecycle management software, ensuring accurate documentation, configuration control, and timely delivery of product data to downstream teams
  • Drive implementation of systems and design automation updates to facilitate generation of customer order documentation needed for operations and supply chain to schedule, build and ship product
  • Support industrialization efforts by defining requirements, assisting with process validation, and coordinating with manufacturing and quality teams for RMU orders
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional meetings to ensure project objectives are met
  • Identify and implement best practices for design, leveraging global resources and partners as needed
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and product quality
