Lead Mechanic Lowney's Landscaping, one of the premier landscaping companies in the Fox Valley, is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Mechanic to join our team full-time, year-round. As a key leader in our in-house shop, you'll oversee the maintenance and repair of our growing fleet of trucks, trailers, and equipment, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. What You'll Be Doing as Lead Mechanic: Lead the shop team in maintaining and servicing all vehicles and equipment to ensure peak performance and reliability. Develop, manage, and enforce a proactive maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency. Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on small engines, trucks, and large diesel equipment. Provide direction and training to shop staff, ensuring high-quality workmanship and safety standards. Weld, fabricate, and repair equipment/tools as needed to keep machines in top condition. Oversee equipment transportation and logistics, including moving heavy machinery to job sites. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment. Manage parts ordering and inventory for ongoing fleet and equipment needs. Ensure compliance with safety and DOT regulations across the fleet. Collaborate with operations leadership to prioritize repairs and align maintenance schedules with project deadlines. Support crews and retail operations with material deliveries as needed. What You'll Bring as Lead Mechanic: Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanic experience, with leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Valid driver's license; CDL (or ability to obtain) preferred. Strong knowledge of small engines, heavy equipment, diesel, and fleet maintenance. Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues efficiently. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently while also guiding and supporting a team. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Must be able to pass background checks and drug screenings. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including occasional nights and weekends. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly for tasks such as moving tools, equipment, and parts. Frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting while performing maintenance and repairs on equipment and vehicles. Ability to work in various positions (e.g., crouching, standing, or lying down) to access machinery and components for repairs and servicing. Manual dexterity and strong hand-eye coordination for using hand tools, power tools, and equipment for diagnostics and repairs. Comfortable working in a mechanic shop environment, which may include exposure to grease, oils, dust, and fluctuating temperatures. Physical stamina to work on vehicles and equipment for extended periods, often requiring repetitive tasks and sustained effort. The ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment such as forklifts, trucks, and cranes to transport and move equipment to and from job sites. Prolonged periods of standing or walking during equipment inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks. Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., under vehicles, inside engines, and compartments) to perform necessary repairs and maintenance. Occasional lifting and maneuvering of large parts and equipment that may require assistance or special tools for proper handling.
