About The Position

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for leading day-to-day mechanical work on aircraft undergoing maintenance, modifications, or VIP/VVIP interior completions. This position ensures quality workmanship, on-schedule task execution, and compliance with FAA regulations and company standards. The Lead Mechanic provides hands-on support and technical direction to a team of mechanics, coordinates with engineering and planning, and helps maintain workflow and accountability across assigned projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance, modification, or completions.
  • Familiarity with VIP or business jet platforms (e.g., Gulfstream, Boeing BBJ, Airbus ACJ) preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, STCs, and OEM maintenance documentation.
  • Working knowledge of FAA Part 145 Repair Station procedures and applicable aviation regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate or eligible for Repairman Certificate under company roster.
  • Experience in large cabin aircraft interiors and structural installations.
  • Prior leadership or team lead experience in a production or maintenance environment.
  • Proficiency with maintenance tracking systems, work order software, or ERP tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead aircraft mechanical installations, removals, inspections, and repairs in accordance with engineering documentation, OEM manuals, and FAA regulations.
  • Guide and mentor junior mechanics in proper techniques for drilling, riveting, sealing, hardware installation, structural fitting, and reassembly.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments with the Crew Chief or Supervisor, ensuring accurate labor tracking and adherence to production schedules.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and modification packages to ensure accurate task execution.
  • Perform quality checks on completed work, ensuring compliance with workmanship standards and aviation regulations.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical discrepancies, collaborating with Engineering and Quality Assurance.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts installed, and sign-offs in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability by enforcing proper tool usage, PPE, FOD control, and hazard reporting.
  • Participate in shift turnovers, team meetings, and daily status reviews to communicate progress, concerns, or changes.
  • Assist with the onboarding and training of new mechanics and apprentices.
  • Act as liaison between shop floor and leadership to report material needs, labor concerns, or technical roadblocks.
