About The Position

PL Developments, also known as PLD, is a leading manufacturer, packager, and distributor of over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products and consumer healthcare goods JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Mechanic oversees daily mechanical operations within blister and carton packaging, managing personnel and ensuring all equipment meets cGMP, SOP, OSHA, FDA, and safety standards. This role is responsible for equipment set-ups, repairs, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of production efficiency. Additional responsibilities include training mechanical staff, supporting installation of new vision systems, and performing technical fabrication and repairs. Strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across Planning and Quality teams are essential. Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm (Overtime on Fridays as needed)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or 5 years managerial experience in the associated field
  • Knowledge of OSHA, cGMP and FDA guidelines
  • Ability to recognize hazards and take appropriate corrective actions
  • Knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for equipment operations including safety rules and regulations
  • Expertise in the operation and maintenance of food and/or pharmaceutical equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with facilities and production equipment.
  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting problems with equipment, identifying solutions, recommending and implementing methods, procedures and/or techniques for resolution
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the day to day management of blister/carton personnel
  • Responsible for machine related aspects such as packaging projects, equipment maintenance, parts and service
  • Review daily mechanical activities to assure compliance with company cGMP’s, and SOP’s
  • Oversee daily set-up, repair, and preventive maintenance of packaging equipment in both bottle and blister operation
  • Ensure that each member of the mechanical team is properly trained along with documentation indicating training information
  • Continuous Improvement of Units Per Minute through consistent machine set-ups, proper mechanical maintenance, and personnel training
  • New Packaging Line Design
  • Prepare timelines, line layouts, and review of electrical schematics for new machine installation
  • IQ/OQ review and approval
  • Oversee outside service requirements and contracts negotiations for compressors, plc’s, etc
  • Perform installation and set-up of new visions systems as required
  • Knowledge of welding, machine fabrication, and technical repairs
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Planning and Quality
