About The Position

The Lead Material handler position assumes responsibilities for raw material storage, order pulling, offloads, and safe handling of chemicals as directed by the Plant Managers or Supervisors. This position is responsible for knowing where each material handler is, coordinating lunch and break coverage, and ensuring training requirements are met. The job requires a high level of comfort with electronic motorized equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret in English, documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Dunn-Edwards Powered Industrial Truck Program Certification
  • Distribution, Labs and Manufacturing: Some positions in Distribution, Labs and Manufacturing may have physical requirements that include, but are not limited to: (10) Lifting of items up to 65 pounds (11) Use of respirator

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize daily activities in the material handling department, including picking orders, replenishments, and truck offloads.
  • Ensures establish processes are followed to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Supports Six Sigma 5S standards and works to meet and exceed housekeeping standards.
  • Distribute daily assignments and maintain awareness of daily tasks. Is fair and consistent in assigning a variety of tasks to Material Handlers.
  • This position is the first line of leadership to answer questions and solve problems that Material Handlers have while completing assignments. Promotes disciplined execution of processes and inventory control while resolving problems that arise.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating problems and errors to Foreman, Supervisors and Managers and using proven problem-solving tools to prevent recurrence. Submit error logs to the appropriate designee to be included in quality tracking reports.
  • Responsible for creating a culture that embraces safe work practices and delivers outstanding safety results and embraces quality on time results.
  • Continue standard Material Handler duties as assigned.
