About The Position

The Lead Manager EHS Services will act as a trusted advisor, coach and EHS team member that supports industrial outages involving major maintenance activities of steam turbines and generators located at Industrial customer sites across North America (paper mills, refineries, power plants, mining) with a focus on the U.S. The position supports internal customers through multiple channels and ways of working, including significant in-field presence, virtually through standard weekly/monthly virtual meetings and through F2F workshops. The specialist supports internal business customers (sales managers, field engineers, field crews including millwrights, winders, and other specialists) with both planning and field execution to ensure risks and hazards and compliance are effectively managed. The role provides critical in-field support through conducting observations, audits, inspections, and collecting and analyzing data to direct areas for improvement. Responsible for activities and processes that assist the Environmental Health and Safety organization achieve business objectives. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Requirements

  • Certificate or degree from a recognized university or college curriculum related to EHS/Safety discipline AND 5+ years in an EHS related position in industrial settings or power generation OR High School Diploma/ GED AND 7+ years in an EHS related position in industrial settings or power generation.
  • 5+ years applicable experience and demonstrated success/knowledge supporting field operations at major industrial facilities
  • Strong oral, written, communication, and collaboration skills across organizational levels
  • Ability to manage time, schedule and priorities.
  • Ability to execute according to established policies, standards, and strategic priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to apply EHS process and tools to analyze and solve EHS problems
  • Physical ability, experience and familiarity of being safe and on-site at large industrial facilities such as refineries, paper mills, and power plants.
  • Comfortable using variety IT tools, willingness to learn new platforms, including AI tools
  • 5/2 schedule – 40 hours/week
  • Requires current driver’s license in good standing with safe driving record- fleet vehicle depending on location
  • English proficiency required
  • Work Location – Remote work arrangement for candidates not located near a GEV site with required travel to GEV locations and customer or project sites (Limited to Eastern / Southern United States)
  • Ability and willingness to travel across North America with minimal notice required. Potential for some global travel for workshops or meetings as required. Passport required.
  • Travel to customer site locations – Approx 40-60% - US / CAN – Majority of travel expected in NE and SE United States with some travel to Western United States and Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical field support at customer locations during turbine and generator major/minor outages. Focus areas include deployment of GEV Life Saving Rules, Risk Reduction, and control of hazards. Typical high hazard work includes mechanical lifting, working at heights, live electrical, confined space, and line of fire.
  • Support planning and execution of outage EHS Safety Plans, Job Safety Analyses, Task Risk Assessments, Work Authorizations and permits, Life Saving Rules implementation, and contractor safety management.
  • Conduct observations, inspections, hazard huts, site inspections, and audits.
  • Assist site leadership with coordination of emergency drills and rescue plans
  • Build and maintain effective relationships and collaboration with field supervisors, maintenance crews, Generator specialists, and customer personnel.
  • Provide Regional EHS Manager with timely analysis of metrics and recommended ways to improve safety policies and programs.
  • Ensure quality information is uploaded into the enterprise Gensuite system
  • Manage OSHA/OHS incident and injury reporting within specified guidelines. Conduct timely and accurate follow up investigations. Analyze root causes to determine and implement safety measures
  • Provide in-field training and follow-up support and coaching for new and ongoing EHS programs and procedures.
  • Use analytical tools and AI, along with deep technical experience and solid judgement, to interpret field data, and guide future effort and focus.
  • Participation with EHS team across Steam Power Services, providing input and feedback on EHS program changes and improvements
