About The Position

The Lead Maintenance Specialist in the Schenectady Facilities Operation group will troubleshoot and analyze machine tools in our Steam Turbine & Generator manufacturing plant within GE VERNOVA Gas Power in Schenectady, NY. They will be expected to make business critical decisions in a timely manner and meet safety, quality, production, and delivery metrics within a particular cell.

Requirements

  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology, or High School Diploma/GED with completion of a Military Technical Training Program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in technical maintenance of manufacturing equipment or equivalent military maintenance training.
  • Proficient in the use of computer tools, software applications, portable electronic devices, and technology-based diagnostic systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively in team environments.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in machine tool maintenance within a large-scale manufacturing environment or equivalent advanced military maintenance experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems including CNC machinery, speed variators, PLCs, robotics, and laser alignment technologies.
  • Prior experience as a Machine Tool Field Service Representative, with a broad understanding of troubleshooting and servicing complex equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze Machine Tools failures for indications of assignable causes, identify and recommend corrective actions, and work with group to implement.
  • Become the technical expert on industrial equipment maintenance and operation for CNC machine tools, robotics, and hydraulic systems for multiple source vendors, controls and processes.
  • Identify and diagnose problems related to the proper operation of equipment mechanically, hydraulically and electrically.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager in assigned area, providing him with weekly metrics on performance, schedules on critical repairs, as well as daily updates on critical equipment.
  • Perform as the lead point of contact with Equipment OEM and parts vendors.
  • Recommend major rebuilds, and redesigns to Manufacturing Engineering, and perform minor redesigns for the elimination of future breakdowns.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering in the review, design, installation and upgrade of machines, prepare Preventative Maintenance schedule, lubrication charts, and determine the necessary spare parts levels.
  • Lead teams of hourly trade personnel to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify industrial machinery.
  • Direct and train skilled trades in the latest repair techniques and maintenance methods.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement using Lean and 5S Initiatives.
  • Develop opportunities for reducing operating expenses and improving capabilities.
  • Active participation in safety initiatives.
