About The Position

Are you a skilled tradesperson ready to take the lead? We're looking for a Lead Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at Western State Hospital, an adult psychiatric hospital, where you'll use leadership to guide others and keep our facilities operating at their best. This job is a lead life safety specialist for an employee who has a Nicet Level 2 Fire Alarm Systems certification. A major part of this job focuses on fire alarm and fire suppression systems. Based out of our Life Safety shop, you'll perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment, and hospital facilities, systems, and equipment. Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade and one year of experience as a journey-level worker in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work. (Experience in a trade may substitute for an apprenticeship).
  • A Nicet Level 2 Fire Alarm Systems certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repairs in life safety, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Fire alarm testing and maintenance.
  • Fire suppression testing and maintenance (fire sprinklers, stand pipes, fire extinguishers).
  • Lead team workflow, provide guidance on safety policies and procedures, and assist staff with operational procedures.
  • Install and maintain plumbing, electrical and mechanical fixtures; repair air conditioning, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, gates and hydrants.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on all types of mechanical equipment.
  • Emergency lighting testing.
  • Minor appliance repairs.
  • Develop solutions to repair and maintenance issues.
  • Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches.
