About The Position

The Lead Maintenance Engineer supports maintenance needs for rotating, fired, and instrumentation/electrical (I&E) equipment across the Ergon network. Serving as both a maintenance strategy specialist and an engineering resource, this role collaborates with CMx, Engineering, and Operations teams to evaluate, develop, and implement effective maintenance strategies. The position plays a critical part in maintaining safe, reliable equipment performance and driving continuous improvement across the network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with rotating (pumps, mills, mixers, gearboxes), fired (steam boilers, hot oil heaters), and I&E equipment (required).
  • Project management and/or general industrial/plant experience (required).
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (reporting, data analysis, presentations).
  • Ability to both give and receive constructive feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Support the overall vision, strategy, and goals of the Maintenance Department.
  • Evaluate spare parts and equipment needs; develop budgets and procure parts to meet network requirements.
  • Build, manage, and improve programs that support equipment reliability and compliance (e.g., Fall Protection Inspections, Mill Strategy, Thermal Fluid Analysis).
  • Serve as project manager for Maintenance projects, including scope and design development, budgeting, contractor selection, scheduling, and execution oversight.
  • Manage strategic reliability projects, coordinating cross-functional teams and developing performance metrics to assess success.
  • Create purchase requisitions and work orders in SAP; manage vendor POs and invoice processing.
  • Develop and share best maintenance practices through bulletins, video guides, PMs, and supporting documentation.
  • Design rotating equipment skids for fabrication in Millwright shops; evaluate pump curves, specify equipment, and coordinate fabrication resources.
  • Drive safety culture by promoting safe work practices and program engagement.
  • Analyze inspection and failure records to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Serve as an engineering resource for millwright, fired equipment, and I&E teams.
  • Identify inefficiencies and lead continuous improvement initiatives (5S, tool evaluation, data tracking, etc.).
  • Promote a positive, collaborative work environment and support a high-performance culture.
  • Travel for out-of-town or overnight assignments as needed.
  • Perform additional maintenance-related tasks as requested.
