About The Position

We are seeking a Machinist Lead to join our team. As a Machinist Lead, you will be responsible for making machine parts (Prototype, production and spare parts) and tools by using precision CNC computer and manual equipment. You will set up, adjust, and perform quality checks while maintaining a best-in-class nature of the equipment and tooling to enhance our abilities to produce parts on time and within specified tolerances. You will also have responsibility for creating programs for new parts for testing along with complex program editing. This role will also be responsible for training new machinists. Once parts are produced you will be responsible to inspect the parts verifying all critical dimensions are within specified ranges/targets. This role will require leadership abilities to guide and direct department team members machinists in hitting safety, quality, and production goals. This is a highly skilled role. The role also requires a high level of attention to detail to ensure quality production and reliability in attendance to ensure our on-time delivery to our customers stays at a world-class level.

Requirements

  • Follow established assembly procedures to ensure quality production.
  • Previous documented leadership/supervisory experience in machine or fab shop >than 15 employees
  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree or journeyman’s card.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education required
  • A recognized apprenticeship may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Master Ability to set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and program CNC computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Master knowledge or reading code and editing programs
  • Full fluency in running and setting up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMC’s.
  • Full fluency in running and setting up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Responsible for advanced and routine machinery maintenance, running/visual tests on broken or worn parts while keeping inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understands flow of production and how their team’s performance affects plant metrics and customers.
  • Ability to detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Mastery of blueprint interpretation and title block GD&T
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, and other hand tools related to the occupation.
  • Ability to lead discussions with other departments, including status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Responsible for direct work assignment and leadership for assigned team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
