If you're looking for a role that values your skills and dedication, IPS is where you’ll thrive. We are looking for a dedicated Lead Manual Machinist to join our team. As a Manual Machinist Lead for IPS, you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators. You will use a variety of manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery, while following service center safety procedures. Assign tasks to qualified personnel within the department as directed by supervisor. Train employees to perform operations within the department. Performs on-the-job training of subordinate workers in advanced electrical skills and maintenance practices. May occasionally be assigned to other duties for training purposes or to meet technological changes or emergencies.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience as a machinist for electric motor repair preferred
  • Ability to read micrometer measuring equipment
  • Ability to operate manual lathes of various sizes and dimensions
  • Ability to operate electroplating equipment
  • Knowledge of the selection, installation and maintenance requirements for three-phase AC induction motors, including those intended for “inverter duty” applications
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Skill in reading sketches, blueprints, control diagrams, ladder logic, manufacturer's specifications and other technical documents related to the maintenance of electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required

Responsibilities

  • Read job cards to determine job status, work authorizations/limitations, description of problems, and/or expected serviceability.
  • Inspect and test equipment to locate damage or worn parts and diagnose malfunctions or read work orders or schematic drawings to determine required repairs.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and perform major and minor repair work on motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves, and related equipment.
  • Performs all levels of routine, preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, generators, gearboxes, blowers, and compressors.
  • Performs root cause analysis on repetitive and catastrophic equipment and system failures.
  • Disassemble equipment, noting parts identification, configuration, and condition. Record repairs required, parts used, and labor time.
  • Repair and rebuild defective mechanical parts in electric motors, generators, and related equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Weld, braze, or solder, wrap, and coat wires to ensure proper insulation.
  • Read service guides to find information needed to perform repairs.
  • Adjust working parts, such as fan belts, contacts, and springs, using hand tools and gauges.
  • Reassembled and repaired electric motors to specified requirements and ratings.
  • Rewire electrical systems and repair or replace electrical accessories.
  • Operate manual machining tools, including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling machines, and related equipment
  • Safely use overhead, gantry cranes, and left trucks, and associate with lift rigging
  • Perform mechanical measurements using portable mechanical instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and portable vibration measurement equipment
