Cook I – Job Summary The Cook I is a senior culinary position responsible for mastery of all kitchen stations and leadership in daily operations. This role ensures consistency in food quality, timing, and presentation, and may create specials or contribute to menu development. The Cook I serves as a mentor to Cook II and Cook III staff, setting the standard for professionalism, efficiency, and food safety. In the absence of the Chef, this position is expected to assume supervisory responsibilities and maintain smooth kitchen operations. Cook I (Advanced / Lead Cook) Highly skilled cook who can mentor others and step into chef’s role if needed. Core Skills & Knowledge Mastery of all stations; ability to oversee the entire line during service. Strong knowledge of classical and modern cooking techniques. Proficient in batch cooking and à la minute service. Able to create daily specials and contribute to menu development. Thorough understanding of cost control, waste reduction, and inventory management. Ensures HACCP and food safety standards are met consistently. Soft/Professional Skills Mentors and trains Cook II and Cook III, fostering growth. Acts as shift lead in chef’s absence; delegates tasks appropriately. Provides feedback to the culinary leadership team on staffing, menu, and operations. Maintains composure under pressure; models professionalism for team. Strong communication and leadership skills with both BOH and FOH.
