The City of Steamboat Springs is hiring a Lead Lift Mechanic to join their team!

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics, maintenance management, or a closely related field, including lift maintenance coursework or certifications, or
  • Five (5) years of related experience, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of ski lift and snowmaking system mechanics and Colorado State Tramway licensing requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of ski lift and snowmaking system electrical maintenance, ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints,, hydraulics, electric systems, control systems, equipment and welding, price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to ski lift, snowmaking system, high/low voltage electrical maintenance, and other municipal maintenance and repair activities.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures; Ability to maintain effective accounting procedures; Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to be self-directed and perform duties of the job and schedule tasks to meet deadlines; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Valid State of Colorado Drivers License and ability to maintain one.
  • The Mechanic is required to provide their own tool set and tool box to accomplish required repair and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Solely responsible for the planning, evaluation, and execution of preventive maintenance schedules for all ski lifts, snowmaking systems and mechanical/electrical equipment not on Public Works maintenance schedule, either personally, or through outside vendors.
  • Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, monthly, bi-annual and annual maintenance and inspections to all tramway systems.
  • Tests, services, troubleshoots and repairs all ski lifts, snowmaking systems, pumps, winches, electric motors, relays, and a variety of other mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Conducts all electrical maintenance and electrical preventive maintenance on ski lifts and snowmaking systems to include low voltage troubleshooting/repair, programmable logic controller functionality and 480v drive systems.
  • Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
  • Maintains a familiarity of Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board policies and procedures related to lift maintenance, operations, and follows associated protocols.
  • Responsible for all licensing requirements for ski lifts at Howelsen Hill.
  • Prepares written responses to all Tramway lift inspections and testing, including but not limited to, incident reporting, scheduling of annual inspections, and any necessary acceptance testing
  • Evaluates status of ski lifts, snowmaking systems, mechanical and electrical equipment and performs or schedules needed repairs.
  • Conducts various analyses and inspections of ski lifts, snowmaking systems and mechanical/electrical systems to determine the cost-effective means of maintenance, repair or replacement.
  • Develops shop procedures and budget data for the maintenance and repair of ski lifts, snowmaking systems and mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Purchases equipment, parts, and supplies used for ski lift, ski area, snowmaking system and mechanical system maintenance.
  • Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of mechanical budgets in conformance with adopted policies and procedures.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment, including costs associated with snow gun and lift maintenance and prepares and communicates capital replacement schedules with Howelsen Manager.
  • May be on-call, stand by and/or required to work weekends during peak equipment use times.
  • Welds, fabricates, and works with steel and materials often and proficiently
  • Locates underground utilities in the Howelsen Park Complex.
  • Assists in the preparation of bid specifications for ski area supplies and mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Work with lift engineers and outside contractors to assess/install upgrades/alterations to older lifts.
  • Assists with rigging of ski lift haul ropes when needed.
  • Assists with the inspection of fire extinguishers located at the Howelsen Park Complex.
  • Provides extra power with transformers at the Howelsen Complex for special events, the Summer Concert Series, and other events requiring additional power.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Rodeo Grounds for Summer Rodeos as well as miscellaneous Howelsen Hill maintenance projects.
  • Climbs light towers and replaces light bulbs on commercial lighting systems at Howelsen Ski/ Rodeo facilities.
  • Maintains stock of spare parts for all lifts, snowguns, lightbulbs, etc. to efficiently perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assists Parks Mechanic in their absence or as necessary.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.
