About The Position

Under the supervision of the Aquatics & Safety Manager, the Lead Lifeguard will assist the Aquatics & Safety  Manager with programming and supervision of the SRWC Aquatics/ Sand Volley Center. Including, but not  limited to programming, special events presentation, point of sale management and lifeguards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of job-related work experience in field required.
  • Minimum one year as a lifeguard.
  • Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to perform as wide variety of swimming skills; possess sufficient strength, agility, hearing, and vision to perform the duties of a lifeguard; thoroughly understand the procedures for reporting accidents and know procedures for when and how to call for help to handle stressful or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, specifically the general public, staff employees and students; arrive for work on time; follow directions from supervisor; understand and follow work rules, safety procedures and personnel policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Recreation, Kinesiology, and Health Services majors are preferred, but not required.
  • Enrolled in at least six units and making satisfactory progress in related degree program at CSULB.

Responsibilities

  • Directly leads the work of 10-12 lifeguards.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring and training, of the aquatic’s student staff including the coordination of Lifeguard CPR/AED and First-Aid training.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive informal and special events aquatics recreation program.
  • Provide aquatic and safety training to a diverse clientele as assigned.
  • Performs as a lifeguard by observing patrons on the deck and in the water to ensure safety and to prevent accidents as needed.
  • Assist in the regular maintenance and problem solving of pool/spa/ sand volley facility.
  • Assist in the regular evaluation of all aquatics programs and special events to determine effectiveness of programming.
  • Represent the aquatics program at campus events.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of periodic in-service trainings and safety audits of aquatics staff.
  • Works cooperatively with Lead SRWC Student Staff to plan and implement large scale programs and/or training sessions as needed.
  • Serves on ASI, University, and NIRSA committees as directed or approved.
  • Assists in point-of-sale management.
