About The Position

The Maryland Department Labor(MD Labor), Occupational and Professional Licensing, is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Specialist III. This recruitment will be use to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement. An Administrative Specialist III is the advanced level of administrative work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies. Employees are assigned administrative responsibilities involving the development of solutions and alternatives to administrative problems and the resolution of administrative issues. Resumes may be submitted as supplemental information; however, all sections of the application must be completed in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Approves or disapproves the original applications of applicants, using independent judgement based on experience and knowledge of current laws and regulations. Approves name changes, credit reports and other changes in license status. Approves or disapprove the applications of reciprocal applicants, reciprocal, agreements and information as required by real estate law. Independent decisions are made using the knowledge of reciprocal laws and regulations from both Maryland and the applicant's original State of licensure.
  • Confers with other departments and staff such as the Call Center, Paralegals and Payment Center.
  • Assist Licensing Supervisor in training staff such as the Lead employee when Licensing Supervisor in unavailable
  • Works with other staff in answering telephone calls and assisting walk-in customers, reading and replying to the board's emails and all other office activities completed to service customers.
  • Works with the Executive Director to correct issues, problems, errors or complaints regarding the issuance of licenses when Licensing Supervisor is unavailable.
