This individual will be a full-time individual available to support both the needs of the SL clinic labs and the waived/PPM labs. This individual will continue to support the growth of clinic labs in the South Region as well as provide support and be a resource to the waived and PPM sites. Summary Provide leadership for quality systems to ensure the delivery of services in accordance with the Sanford’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic goals. Helps to lead the development and maintains the Sanford Medical Laboratory Quality program, including the coordination of laboratory safety training and education for all laboratory staff members. Job Description Lead Laboratory Quality Specialists are responsible for hospital and clinic lab quality over site. The lead position will support and communicate Enterprise Lab Quality policy and report standardization. Required to work with leadership from other departments for quality assurance (QA) and process improvement projects (PI) May be asked to travel to any laboratory site depending on the needs of the facility and at the discretion of leadership. This position may require acting as a CLIA role of Qualified Laboratory Director, Technical Supervisor and/or Technical Consultant as needed.. Reviews knowledge of techniques, procedures, and protocols, lab-wide and within lab section. Participates in validation and verification activities as needed. Develops, writes, reviews, and updates procedures as requested. Uses statistical analysis to measure success of elements of the quality program. Assists laboratory leadership to prepare for inspections related to accreditation with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), COLA, AABB, Joint Commission and others as applicable. Must have a thorough knowledge of general laboratory operations, health care operations, and management principles. Works with enterprise laboratory committees to achieve standardized process improvement initiatives. Actively participate in tasks force, committees, staff meetings, etc. to assist with the department initiatives, implement goals, and organizational strategies. Manages the process in reviewing results of performance assessments and recommends process improvements. Implements established performance improvement policies and trains employees on these policies. Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization. . This position supports & reports to the local market and accountable to the Enterprise Lab Quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science is required.
  • 5 years of laboratory experience required and 2 years of previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Histotechnologist (HTL) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • If working in North Dakota (ND) must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
  • Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications.
  • May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of general laboratory operations, health care operations, and management principles.
  • Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide their annual Quality Assessment plan which includes a variety of projects each month to ensure compliance with our regulations (each month is a new set of projects)
  • Run monthly reports to track cancellations, result corrections, specimen integrity reports, and turnaround time reports.
  • Monitor key quality indicators for these sites.
  • Monitor all proficiency test results for these sites.
  • Review and categorize all SAFE events for these sites.
  • Own and maintain all Quality & Safety policies and procedures for the clinic labs.
  • Assigns and monitors all employees in MediaLab & MedTraining for required courses
  • Attend Lab Quality Enterprise Workgroup meetings
  • Provide and maintain all training documents for waived & PPM sites
  • Provide and maintain all SOPs for tests offered by waived & PPM sites
  • Provide competency documents for all tests offered by waived & PPM sites
  • Coordinate with hospital POCT to ensure consistency in areas where we can standardize
  • Continue quarterly visits/audits within Sioux Falls as needed.
  • Be a continual resource for all these sites as staff/leaders turn over to ensure compliance
