The Lead Laboratory Assistant assists the Supervisor in coordinating the daily nontechnical activities of the Laboratory and serves as the primary provider of orientation and training for newly hired staff, as well as offering updated in-service to Laboratory Assistants and Phlebotomists. This role acts as the "In Charge" person over the Specimen Processing Area and Phlebotomy in the absence of the Supervisor, ensuring the distribution of workload for rapid turnaround of order collections and specimen processing of incoming samples on the assigned shift. The Lead Laboratory Assistant also performs waived testing and result reporting, if applicable, and delivers quality phlebotomy services while assisting with patient flow as needed. Furthermore, this position plays a critical role in coaching, mentoring, training, and evaluating Lab Assistant staff members, setting an example in attendance, teamwork, positive communication, safety practices, and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals.
