About The Position

The Lead Laboratory Technician at Freeport LNG Development, L.P. is responsible for supervising lab technicians and overseeing laboratory operations related to LNG and natural gas analysis. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, conducting analyses, and reporting results to the Process Engineer/Gas Controller. The Lead Technician will also mentor subordinate staff, maintain laboratory equipment, and participate in audits for regulatory compliance. The position requires frequent travel to off-site locations and a commitment to safety and teamwork within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology or other related Field.
  • 5+ years' experience in an industrial laboratory.
  • 5+ years' experience with Gas Chromatographs for hydrocarbon sampling and analysis.
  • 5+ years' experience with cooling tower/water treatment.
  • Must be experienced in the use of PC equipment and software including LIMS, SAP, Windows and MS Office products.
  • Must be able to read, understand and adhere to HSE policies, including SDS systems.
  • Effective written/verbal technical communication skills.
  • Organized at keeping detailed records.
  • Good analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Possess good laboratory practice skills.
  • Active learner; Self-starter/motivated.
  • Ability to receive and follow work instruction from supervisors.
  • Ability to follow operating procedures.
  • Troubleshooting/analytical skills with the ability to logically work through process problems and upsets.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises lab technicians and lab activities for loading/unloading and liquefaction operations.
  • Provides oversight and guidance to subordinate lab technicians.
  • Responsible for all laboratory analyses, sampling, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with all facility safety, environmental, and health requirements.
  • Trains and mentors subordinate lab personnel.
  • Operates and maintains online and laboratory gas chromatographs and other various meters.
  • Analyzes LNG received, various in-process samples, and outgoing products for inventory management and compliance with specifications.
  • Positively represents Freeport LNG by participating in LNG demonstrations during site tours and external conferences as requested.
  • Provides oversight to the daily lab operations associated with the Safe, Reliable, and Efficient operation in all labs.
  • Assists with monitoring and maintaining costs associated with the lab's budget.
  • Assists Laboratory Technical Supervisor with the development of annual lab expense and capital budgets.
  • Helps monitor and analyze facility air emissions.
  • Obtains hydrocarbon and/or water samples.
  • Maintains product samples as required by customer agreements.
  • Assists Laboratory Technical Supervisor with coordinating any required third-party laboratory services.
  • Maintains detailed laboratory records by hardcopy, LIMS, and Content Server.
  • Participates in audits required for ISO certification and Regulatory Agencies.
  • Works with surveyors/inspectors for product ships.
  • Writes and/or reviews laboratory procedures.
  • Maintains and provides accurate analyses required by facility LTAs and governmental regulations.
  • Coordinates laboratory waste pick up.
  • Analyzes dew point readings in the field.
  • Completes facility-specific training and duties as assigned by site supervision.
  • Attends routine safety meetings and updates.
  • Follows all Life Saving Rules.
  • Leads and acts as subject matter expert for all laboratory resources and personnel engaged in performing chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products.
  • May prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for use by laboratory personnel in conducting tests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by facility supervision.
