About The Position

This position involves coordinating the activities of a janitorial crew, participating in the interview and performance evaluation of staff, and providing training on safety, product, and equipment uses. The role includes handling work requests for County departments, monitoring building security and safety, conducting major cleaning of assigned facilities, and ensuring cleanliness in restrooms and other areas. The janitor will also be responsible for maintaining the operational condition of cleaning equipment and may operate County vehicles for supply delivery.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience equivalent to that of a Janitor in Merced County.
  • Possess a valid California driver's license at time of appointment and maintain.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activities of a janitorial crew.
  • Participates in the interview and performance evaluation of staff.
  • Observes staff performance and provides training on safety, product, and equipment uses.
  • Handles work requests for County departments.
  • Monitors building security and safety by locking doors and checking electrical appliance use.
  • Conducts major cleaning of assigned facilities.
  • Services, cleans, and supplies restrooms.
  • Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  • Mixes water and detergents or acids to prepare cleaning solutions.
  • Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes floors.
  • Notifies managers concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Polishes metal work.
  • Cleans and maintains furnishings.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Cleans stairways, hallways, restrooms, offices, lobbies, ceilings, walls, and light fixtures.
  • Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
  • Turns out lights and locks doors and windows.
  • Checks and maintains operational condition of cleaning equipment.
  • Operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers, and other equipment.
  • Replaces light bulbs and tubes.
  • Requisitions supplies as needed.
  • Regulates building temperature.
  • May operate County vehicles to deliver and pick up supplies.
