The Lead IT Engineer - POS & Payments is a technical leader responsible for the architecture, implementation, and support of mission-critical systems that enable retail transactions across physical store locations, ensuring seamless integration with payment platforms, high system availability, and secure, efficient processing of customer purchases. This role leads engineering efforts by ensuring performance, security, and scalability, while mentoring team members and driving strategic initiatives.

  • Lead the design and development of POS and payment system architectures, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and business goals.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for POS and payment technologies, guiding engineering best practices and technical decision-making.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of POS hardware/software, payment gateways, and related integrations (e.g., loyalty, tax, fraud prevention).
  • Drive incident resolution and root cause analysis for complex system issues.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning strategies to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Ensure systems are compliant with PCI-DSS and other regulatory standards.
  • Ensure third-party providers implement secure payment practices, including encryption, tokenization, and secure APIs.
  • Lead technical workstreams in cross-functional projects, including new store rollouts, payment method expansions, and system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers to evaluate, implement, and support POS/payment solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (master's preferred).
  • 7 years of experience in IT engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in POS platforms (e.g., NCR, Oracle Micros, Toshiba, Square, GK) and payment processors (e.g., Adyen, Stripe, Worldpay).
  • Strong understanding of payment technologies including EMV, NFC, mobile wallets, and contactless payments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Experience with mobile POS and omnichannel retail environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, Prometheus, New Relic).
  • Good knowledge and interest in frameworks and tools: Spring Framework, Junit, Apache CXF (Rest, SOAP), JavaScript, Node.js, Angular.js, OpenUI5, HTML5, CSS, Blazor.
  • SQL Databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgresSQL).
  • NoSQL Databases (Cosmos DB).
  • Windows and Linux.
  • Starting pay range: $114,000 - $156,800.
  • Eligible for annual cash bonuses based on company performance.
