The Lead Internal Controls Analyst is responsible for the execution of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls program within the first line of defense at Transamerica. This role involves identifying, assessing, and reporting on key controls across the company to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. The analyst will collaborate with business management, process owners, and risk management personnel to maintain effective internal controls and support the overall financial reporting framework.

  • Assist in the evaluation and design of internal controls, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Document financial/accounting/actuarial process flows with a focus on internal controls and SOX compliance.
  • Plan, test, and evaluate technology changes impacting the SOX environment.
  • Support management's SOX risk assessment and scoping activities for proper risk identification and controls linkage.
  • Develop and implement goals, policies, priorities, and procedures for internal controls over financial reporting and SOX.
  • Prepare updates to management, including control remediation plans.
  • Work with external auditors to assess the control environment and coordinate process walkthroughs.
  • Collaborate with the first line to develop action plans for correcting reporting deficiencies.
  • Engage the second line in testing the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically seven years of experience in internal controls, audit, or risk management within the financial services industry.
  • In-depth experience working on internal audits and/or operational risk assessments.
  • Ability to document and communicate financial reporting processes clearly.
  • CPA certification
  • Big 4 public accounting experience working with controls within the Sarbanes Oxley environment.
