About The Position

The Lead Instructor is responsible for delivering instruction to adult learners in both in-person and virtual classroom settings, while supporting and assisting instructors in developing curriculum aligned with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Nevada Department of Education (NDE), and agency guidelines across ESL, High School Equivalency (HSE), and integrated education and Training (IET) programs. This position tracks student attendance and performance measures to support program outcomes and instructional effectiveness, ensures students have access to rigorous, relevant, and appropriate educational opportunities, and serves as a backup to the AES director as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge with WIOA and NDE requirements and regulations.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies for Adult Basic Education.
  • Ability to develop curriculum for both remote and in-person learning environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with instructors and staff to implement effective procedures that support program outcomes.
  • Ability to interpret and apply educational data to identify trends and improve program performance.
  • Ability to participate in required Nevada Department of Education and agency sponsored training, coaching, and professional development activities, including travel to Reno or other cities/states as required.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development through relevant coursework and educational resources.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications to support administrative and data management tasks.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited college or university
  • Certification in at least one of the following: ESL, TESOL, Elementary Education, Secondary Education or a combination of them.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience teaching in a school or academy in the U.S. or in an American or English School overseas, especially with adult multicultural learners.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a coaching or leadership role in curriculum, instruction, or professional development.
  • Must have reliable technology and internet connections to teach remotely.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to offsite classes and meetings.
  • Ability to operate and use office and classroom equipment, especially computer, photocopy machine, interactive overhead projectors.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit continuously while teaching.
  • Ability to work morning and evening schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching long distance learning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support ESL and HSE instructors in curriculum planning, instructional strategies, and delivery to ensure engaging, standards-aligned adult education.
  • Coach and advise instructors on lesson planning, language instruction methods, and integration of college and career readiness standards, English language proficiency standards, and WIOA requirements.
  • Assist with student registration, intake, orientation, assessment, and placement including pre- and post-testing.
  • Support accurate collection and maintenance of student data (enrollment, attendance, assessments, demographics, and follow-up) in required systems.
  • Monitor student attendance, progress, and assessment outcomes; ensure timely post-testing and recommend strategies to improve performance and program effectiveness.
  • Share program data (e.g., measurable skill gains, Educational Functioning Level gains, and post-testing rates) with instructors to inform instruction.
  • Supervise staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and timecard approvals (UKG).
  • Provide professional development, coaching, and mentoring to instructional staff.
  • Coordinate with volunteers, tutors, and support their integration into the classroom.
  • Manage student discipline by collaborating with instructors, case managers, issuing warnings, and following up as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners, including community organizations, to support student referrals, guest speakers, classroom sites, and program expansion.
  • Maintain communication with partners (e.g., referral updates, progress reports, registration timelines) and manage related tracking tools (e.g., LACES, Google Sheets).
  • Support program operations, including maintaining calendars, responding to inquiries, transferring students between classes and monitoring communication portals.
  • Assist in planning and executing student events and program activities.
  • Provide substitute instruction as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, data confidentiality requirements, and safety standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
