Visit us at RenewableAlaska.com to learn more! JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Solar Installer plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient installations of solar energy systems. This position is responsible for leading a crew of seasonal and permanent installers while upholding safety standards, delivering excellent customer service, and managing inventory control. The Lead Installer actively contributes to the company’s reputation by modeling professionalism, providing hands-on training and collaborating with operations and sales teams to achieve project goals. This role serves as a working lead, completing installations alongside the team while maintaining oversight of job execution, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Basic understanding of electrical and plumbing systems, with the ability to read wiring diagrams and blueprints.
Skilled in the safe operation of hand and power tools used in construction and solar installation.
Ability to work on rooftops, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA guidelines for construction and electrical work.
Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and interact professionally with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
Team-oriented with a positive attitude and strong customer service focus.
Willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including battery and wind power systems.
Knowledge of crew leadership and supervision principles to guide team performance, meet deadlines, and uphold safety and quality standards.
Skilled in coordinating daily job site operations, including task assignments and material flow.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Three (3) years of experience in construction, roofing, or electrical work or proficient demonstration as an installer.
One (1) year of supervisory experience
Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
Able to pass background check and obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (within 2 weeks of hire).
Availability to work 4x10-hour shifts with flexibility during events, shows, or seasonal peaks.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Alaska Native Corporations.
Experience in solar, renewable energy, or related trades.
Completion of relevant technical training or apprenticeship program.
Familiarity with residential, commercial, or industrial energy systems.

Responsibilities

Serve as on-site lead, ensuring projects adhere to timelines, quality standards, and safety expectations while guiding less experienced installers.
Supervise and mentor crew members to maintain productivity, safety, and quality workmanship.
Provide hands-on training and performance feedback to crew members to support ongoing skill development.
Model professional conduct, customer service, and problem-solving for junior installers.
Coordinate job site operations including material staging, workflow, and delegation of tasks.
Interpret blueprints, specifications, and electrical/plumbing schematics for installation requirements.
Install and repair solar-energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV) and thermal systems for heating air or water.
Locate and mark placement of collectors, tanks, and components based on site layout.
Cut holes in roofing, walls, and ceilings to install equipment and route plumbing and electrical systems.
Mount supports and brackets to secure solar collectors and related components.
Test system circuits for continuity and leaks using meters and diagnostic tools and monitor for proper performance.
Identify and resolve installation issues, replacing or repairing defective components as needed.
Safely manage and care for tools, materials, and equipment to ensure proper use and prevent loss or damage.
Maintain a clean, organized job site and company vehicle; load and unload materials, track inventory, and follow all safety protocols to ensure readiness and safety.
Perform vehicle inspections and routine maintenance (DVIR reports).
Collaborate with service and operations teams to ensure seamless customer experience and timely issue resolution.
Attend company-provided training and participate in meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
