About The Position

The Infusion Nurse Lead is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of patient care within an assigned team of Registered Nurses. This role involves overseeing patient assignments, assessing referrals, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, managing staff coverage, and supporting quality improvement efforts. The Infusion Nurse Lead works closely with the interdisciplinary team to promote safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care, while modeling leadership and clinical excellence in alignment with West Cancer Center’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least six (6) months of experience with West Cancer Center.
  • Current RN license to practice as a professional nurse in the state of employment.
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association (new hires and transfers must obtain if not current).
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to use multiple information sources to resolve complex problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain workflow.
  • Ability to implement new processes, promote efficiencies, and maintain patient safety.
  • Commitment to continuous learning through professional development and peer collaboration.
  • Physical ability to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, walking, bending, and performing repetitive hand motions.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergency situations and safely handle/administer narcotics.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate department operations, including scheduling, patient assignments, and monitoring daily activities to ensure quality patient care.
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with the responsibilities of an Infusion Nurse.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrate leadership and promote professional practice within the nursing team.
  • Support the development of a competent, productive, and quality-focused staff in collaboration with the Clinical Resource Nurse and Nursing Director.
  • Ensure staff compliance with federal, state, local, system, and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist the Director with payroll and timekeeping responsibilities.
  • Participate in operational meetings and committees to support coordination and continuous improvement.
  • Create a positive work environment that supports staff retention and professional growth.
  • Administer chemotherapy according to research protocols (if applicable) and participate in research studies after six months of employment.
