Requirements

  • Experience in infrastructure engineering with a focus on Mainframe.
  • Deep expertise in mainframe technologies and tools.
  • Ability to be a result driven self-starter who enjoys researching, hands on proof of concept work, and learning new tools.
  • Ability to identify and develop new technical solutions with limited guidance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
  • Effective collaboration skills and communication skills to work across team(s), document research/POC findings/architectural decisions, and showcase work.
  • Knowledge of security principles and governance/risk processes.
  • Ability to work with vendors and establish professional relationships.
  • Ability to represent State Farm at various conferences and council meetings.

  • Proficient in mainframe operating systems (z/OS) and hardware (IBM Z Series).
  • Proficient in mainframe language support and issuance.
  • Proficient in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Go) for infrastructure automation and tool development.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., GitLab CI/CD).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (BMC AMI Products, Splunk, IntelliMagic, Dynatrace) to ensure system performance and availability.
  • Certifications in mainframe technologies or infrastructure-related certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Technology product teams to understand and evaluate technical requirements that may result in infrastructure offering modifications.
  • Work closely with the IEOM Service Delivery teams and a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to evaluate and validate proposed technical solutions and changes.
  • Identify areas of improvement, changes to architectural standards, and future state capability strategies.
  • Act as technical resources in validation of project estimates and requirements or on defined projects.
  • Focus on Mainframe Engineering - specifically operating system, hardware, language support, and issuance.
