About The Position

About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a seasoned Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Developer to join our Engineering team and help build the automation foundations that provision, manage, and scale our IBM MQ Appliance platform. This role is ideal for a hands‑on engineer who understands the operational complexity of running distributed, appliance‑based messaging systems and is passionate about enabling frictionless self‑service through automation. You will lead by example—designing and implementing scalable IaC modules and GitOps workflows that abstract the complexity of provisioning MQ Appliances, configuring queue managers, setting up HA pairs, managing channels and listeners, enforcing TLS and security policies, automating certificates, and enabling enterprise‑grade observability. This role blends strategic platform architecture, automation engineering, and high-quality code delivery. In this role, you will: Lead large-scale initiatives to automate the provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle operations of IBM MQ Appliances and their queue managers Architect and develop reusable IaC components (Terraform, Ansible) for MQ Appliance onboarding, firmware configuration, queue manager provisioning, HA pair setup, failover behaviors, and policy enforcement Develop robust APIs using Java Spring Boot to expose MQ queue manager provisioning, configuration, capacity management, certificate automation, and governance workflows Design and implement GitOps‑driven workflows to automate updates to MQ Appliance configurations—such as queue manager settings, channels, listeners, routing rules, HA replication, and security configurations Build and maintain self‑service platform capabilities enabling developers to request MQ queue managers, queues, channels, certificates, and other MQ resources through intuitive APIs or service catalogs Define and enforce MQ Appliance platform standards, including naming conventions, TLS/SSL standards, HA/DR patterns, multi‑site topology guidelines, and enterprise security controls Collaborate across engineering, security, and product teams to align MQ automation with organizational priorities and best practices Participate in architecture and code reviews while mentoring engineers on MQ Appliance operations, IaC patterns, and automation best practices Continuously improve platform reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency through automation, modernization, and enhancements to MQ management tooling

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of full‑stack software development experience using Java
  • 3+ years of experience deploying and operating IBM MQ Appliances
  • 3+ years of experience with queue manager design, messaging patterns, and MQ configuration
  • 3+ years of experience with IaC tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • 3+ years of experience implementing GitOps or similar automation practices
  • 2+ years of experience with Kubernetes/OCP, containerization, and hybrid cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • 2+ years of experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and integrating automation into platform services

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HA and DR configurations on MQ Appliances, including HA pairs, multi‑site deployments, and automated failover
  • Deep understanding of IBM MQ internals, including queue manager architecture, logs, channels, listeners, certificates, and message routing
  • Experience implementing MQ security, including TLS, CHLAUTH rules, and role‑based access controls
  • Familiarity with designing event-driven architectures and messaging patterns (point‑to‑point, pub/sub)
  • Experience with high‑availability topologies across multiple data centers using MQ Appliances
  • Hands‑on experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and MQ Appliance monitoring APIs/MIBs

Responsibilities

  • Lead large-scale initiatives to automate the provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle operations of IBM MQ Appliances and their queue managers
  • Architect and develop reusable IaC components (Terraform, Ansible) for MQ Appliance onboarding, firmware configuration, queue manager provisioning, HA pair setup, failover behaviors, and policy enforcement
  • Develop robust APIs using Java Spring Boot to expose MQ queue manager provisioning, configuration, capacity management, certificate automation, and governance workflows
  • Design and implement GitOps‑driven workflows to automate updates to MQ Appliance configurations—such as queue manager settings, channels, listeners, routing rules, HA replication, and security configurations
  • Build and maintain self‑service platform capabilities enabling developers to request MQ queue managers, queues, channels, certificates, and other MQ resources through intuitive APIs or service catalogs
  • Define and enforce MQ Appliance platform standards, including naming conventions, TLS/SSL standards, HA/DR patterns, multi‑site topology guidelines, and enterprise security controls
  • Collaborate across engineering, security, and product teams to align MQ automation with organizational priorities and best practices
  • Participate in architecture and code reviews while mentoring engineers on MQ Appliance operations, IaC patterns, and automation best practices
  • Continuously improve platform reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency through automation, modernization, and enhancements to MQ management tooling
