About The Position

Job Purpose: The Lead Horticulturist is responsible for managing, designing, developing, and maintaining all grounds across the Attic Angel property and its managed communities. This role provides hands-on leadership for outdoor and indoor landscapes while guiding grounds staff, coordinating contracted services, and supporting resident engagement through committees and enrichment programs. The ideal candidate blends strong horticultural expertise with leadership, creativity, and a passion for creating beautiful, welcoming environments.

Requirements

  • Education or training in horticulture, landscape management, environmental science, or a related field (degree preferred).
  • Several years of hands-on horticulture or landscape management experience, including leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care, landscape design, turf management, and seasonal maintenance practices.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing contracted landscape services.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • A collaborative, resident-focused mindset with enthusiasm for community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, develop, and maintain all landscape areas, including: Outdoor ornamental landscape beds Turf, trees, shrubs, woods, and prairies Ponds and water features Integral hardscapes
  • Lead, train, and provide daily direction to grounds staff.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and monitor contracted landscape and horticultural services to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee seasonal planting, pruning, soil health, irrigation, pest management, and sustainability practices.
  • Ensure all grounds are safe, attractive, and well-maintained year-round.
  • Collaborate with Life Enrichment to support resident participatory programs related to gardening, nature, and outdoor spaces.
  • Support resident interests by leading or participating in appropriate resident committees.
  • Assist with budgeting, planning, and long-term landscape improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental best practices.
