About The Position

La Clínica del Pueblo (LCDP) is a community-based Federally Qualified Health Center committed to advancing health equity through culturally responsive, integrated care for communities disproportionately impacted by structural barriers, including immirants, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people living with or at risk for HIV. LCDP delivers HIV services through a status-neutral, syndemic-informed model that integrates HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, primary and behavioral health, case management, and social support services. The Lead HIV Medicine Physician is an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician who provides direct clinical care while serving as the clinical lead for HIV services across the HIV care continuum. This role provides clinical oversight, subject-matter expertise, and quality leadership for HIV care delivered at La Clínica del Pueblo.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Active licensure (or eligibility) in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
  • Experience providing HIV care or strong commitment to developing HIV medicine expertise.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English.
  • Experience in team-based primary care.
  • Commitment to health equity and serving underserved communities.

Nice To Haves

  • HIV specialist certification (e.g., AAHIVM) preferred but not required.
  • Experience in FQHC or Ryan White–funded HIV programs.
  • Experience caring for LGBTQ+ populations and patients with complex psychosocial needs.
  • Familiarity with HIV quality improvement frameworks.
  • 2 years of experience in managing clinicians or clinical teams

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary and HIV-related care, including HIV prevention (PrEP/PEP), diagnosis, treatment initiation, and long-term management.
  • Manage patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs using current HIV treatment guidelines.
  • Provide or support clinical oversight for Hepatitis C screening, diagnosis, and treatment within primary care, particularly for patients with cooccurring HIV, substance use, mental health conditions, or housing instability, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide and advance low barrier, integrated HCV care as part of a syndemic approach.
  • Deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and LGBTQ+-affirming care.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call coverage as part of the provider rotation, as applicable.
  • Document clinical encounters accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Serve as the clinical lead for HIV services across prevention, linkage, treatment, retention, and viral suppression.
  • Support implementation of LCDP’s status-neutral HIV care model.
  • Provide guidance on HIV-related protocols, workflows, and standards of care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to other providers delivering HIV care.
  • As part of the role, the Lead HIV Medicine Physician may supervise and mentor clinicians providing HIV prevention and treatment services, offering clinical guidance, case consultation, and support for quality improvement and professional development.
  • Advance a syndemic approach integrating mental health, substance use, sexual and reproductive health, and social drivers of health.
  • Collaborate with behavioral health, case management, HIV navigation and the broader Community Health Action teams.
  • Support care coordination for patients with complex needs.
  • Lead LCDP’s organizational HIV Quality Committee
  • Participate in Ryan White HIV Quality Management and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Use clinical data to identify gaps in care and improve outcomes.
  • Support training and mentorship of clinicians and staff related to HIV care.
