About The Position

Lead Technicians report to Operations Managers in organizing and overseeing Technicians through the safe and successful completion of daily department duties. Lead Technicians are responsible for the day-to-day execution of tasks related to Broodstock, Larval Rearing, Live Feeds, Nursery and Maintenance. It is the Lead Technician’s responsibility to ensure that all operating tasks are completed in a manner consistent with company policies, procedures, and Operations Manager expectations. Lead Technicians are professional, organized, confident and self-motivated, with strong leadership and communication skills. Lead Technicians lead by example and at all times work to identify and improve professional, mechanical and biological processes.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree, associate degree and/or have 2 years of relevant experience with aquaculture production
  • Have at least one year experience at BOM.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Be self-motivated, independent worker with strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to multi-task and manage paperwork
  • Have strong computer skills, including all MS Office applications.
  • Have strong communications skills.
  • Able to work atypical schedule, including Saturdays, Sundays & holidays
  • Be able to consistently lift 50 lbs, frequently climb 4+ feet, & work in a sunny, hot, & humid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Has a functional understanding of specific departmental operations.
  • Perform tasks and functions of a Technician.
  • Lead by example.
  • Lead daily operations, including planning, ordering, task assignment, scheduling, and husbandry.
  • Provide input to the Operations Manager for plans and schedules.
  • Assist in coordinating daily/weekly staffing, tasks, and priorities.
  • Identify & suggest safe solutions to production issues/bottlenecks.
  • Prepare, monitor, maintain, and safely operate equipment.
  • Lead team achievement of delivering desired results in the operational areas of production output, safety, fish health, and cost.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels (feed, consumables, spare parts, etc.)
  • Monitor and report on department Key Performance Indicators.
  • Understand and communicate department KPI to team members and help lead team to reach KPI goals.
  • Assist with accurate and timely data collection & reporting.
  • Prepare standardized reports.
  • Act as primary point of contact for all hatchery operations when they are the senior team member onsite, accountable for leading communications between departments and to the senior team to ensure resolution of any issues.
  • Maintain engagement with the Leadership Team to ensure timely communication.
  • Draft purchase requests and assist in ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Consistently comply with, and monitor team’s compliance of, Company policies and procedures, including safety and biosecurity protocols.
  • Train and mentor team members on daily operations, fish husbandry, and maintenance.
  • Develop SOPs as needed.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a high performing team, conduct training, and assistance with conflict resolution.
