The Lead Hardware Engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. is responsible for analyzing, designing, and developing both analog and digital circuits. This role involves conducting design reviews, developing hardware specifications, and managing hardware projects. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and technicians, ensuring the robustness of products and circuits through rigorous testing and documentation.

  • Analyze, design, and develop conventional analog and digital circuits.
  • Conduct moderate to complex design reviews to demonstrate product and circuit robustness.
  • Develop hardware specifications and prepare system level specifications.
  • Write and analyze test plans, execute tests, and evaluate test results for peer design reviews.
  • Prepare and maintain product documentation, including data sheets, instruction manuals, and design/test documentation.
  • Provide and maintain accurate project plans.
  • Manage and/or lead hardware projects of moderate complexity.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing.
  • Mentor and direct the efforts of other Hardware Engineers and technicians.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically 6+ years of combined experience in at least 2 of the following areas: Analog circuit design, digital design with microprocessors, power supply design.
  • Strong emphasis on simulation/tool driven design and circuit validation methods (SPICE, ANSYS, HYPERLYNX, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of project management processes and procedures.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related experience.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Industrial controls, 3-phase and electric power systems, electric utility telecommunications.
