About The Position

The Lead Software Engineer at USAA plays a crucial role in delivering full stack user solutions for the modernized Auto Insurance acquisition and servicing platform. This position involves shaping the member experience through development, guiding teams through production releases, and ensuring the delivery of complex technical solutions. The role requires collaboration with various teams and stakeholders, mentoring junior engineers, and demonstrating Site Reliability Engineering practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 8 years of software development experience with 2 years in a leadership role.
  • 6 years of experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Highly proficient in software engineering languages and tools.
  • Knowledge and experience in leading code/design reviews.
  • Ability to address complex production issues effectively.
  • Deep understanding of Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Insurance Industry experience.
  • 3-5 years of technical leadership in enterprise-level web applications.
  • 3 years of hands-on AWS experience (EKS, Lambda, S3, etc.).
  • 5 years of hands-on React development.
  • 8 years of Java and REST services development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex tactical and strategic multi-functional technical solutions.
  • Lead the team in in-depth code/design reviews and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Organize work and lead multiple teams to deliver features and solutions.
  • Independently resolve complex production issues and lead troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.
  • Mentor and coach junior and experienced engineers on design principles.
  • Work with architecture to define directions for complex key technologies.
  • Participate in industry organizations and pursue educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrate Site Reliability Engineering practices and ensure compliance with risk policies.
