About The Position

Ensures the safe and proper operation and maintenance of the power plant at Kaiser Permanente owned facilities. Provides an environment that is safe for our members and staff. This position also has compliance accountability and/or responsibility for Kaiser Permanentes policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards (if applicable), and applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, as well as proper use of Kaiser Permanente Personal Computer (PC) and applications. In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.

Requirements

  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of building systems in medical or industrial facilities.
  • Three years of HVAC experience, including working with chillers both air and water cooled, package units, direct expansion, split systems and variable refrigeration system.
  • Two years experience working with and performing maintenance on boilers or similar, and related equipment.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
  • Stationary Engineering License - Grade 3 (Maryland).
  • Drivers License (in location where applicable).
  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbons Certificate.
  • Demonstrated experience with heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of boiler operations and related equipment required.
  • In-depth knowledge of life safety code on federal, state, and local levels required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with medical center and Regional Office personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and in a professional manner.
  • Experience with Hospital Plan Maintenance regulations and physical plant systems within the medical facilities required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Works in a self-directed way with limited supervision.
  • Coordinates with Management on activities, schedules and work assignments of maintenance personnel.
  • Makes decisions on facility equipment and systems when an emergency impacts the facility operations.
  • Single point of contact for facility management when the environment of the campus is adversely impacted due to environmental, systems and equipment failures.
  • Responsible along with Management for ongoing compliance of facilities.
  • Monitors building systems operations to assure efficient operation.
  • Responsible with Management to perform inspections, maintenance, and to assure repairs on building systems are performed correctly.
  • Insures the upkeep of building grounds.
  • Reports to proper authority observations of any condition(s) that need attention around the exterior of the buildings, including parking lots and garages.
  • Performs all Environmental and Safety tasks in accordance with appropriate Occupational, Safety and Health and Environmental Regulations.
  • Operates facilities in accordance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations as well as best management practices and procedures.
  • Documents steps or measures taken in performing tasks in accordance to EHS Regulations.
  • Participates in the EHS assessment process and performing the necessary tasks or operations to achieve compliance with assessment recommendations.
  • Keeps logs, prepares reports on boilers, chillers, and HVAC equipment and performs necessary maintenance and services.
  • Responds to facility problems during working hours and while on-call.
  • Maintains close communications with the Facility Operations Manager.
  • May assign an E2 to troubleshoot building system problems and make repairs in other medical facilities within the MAS Region.
  • Advises Management in the review and development of maintenance policies and procedures throughout the Region and makes recommendation for any changes.
  • Monitors and maintains specialized clinical equipment that is installed as part of the building systems.
  • Helps with WO review and completion of other Engineers in that zone.
  • Helps with MCM WO review meetings and updates.
  • Assigns WO to Engineers for execution and follows up with Stephanie if WOs will automatically be assigned to Engineers.
  • Stays on top of WO status and notes and adds notes to the WOs for end user information.
  • Schedules and coordinates annual and semi-annual inspections (i.e., elevators, generators, fire alarms, sprinklers, etc.).
  • Responds to emergencies throughout the zone and communicates status updates to Zone Manager.
  • Helps Manager monitor the KPLearn and union training requirements.
  • Assists other Engineers if they have questions or struggle in certain areas.
  • Helps identify necessary Engineering training to increase knowledge and skill level with extensive and new technology being installed in our buildings.
  • Helps coordinate or fill in building coverage when Engineers are on PTO/sick.
  • Clockworks/HydroPoint and Energy saving opportunities lead and ownership.
  • Highlights technical troubleshooting as we interview.
  • Gets annual UST information and ready for DEQ/MDE submission.
  • Inventory support in Nuvolo to help CMMS Owner.
  • Performs other duties, within their field, as assigned by immediate supervisor.
