The Lead Technologist assists in the daily operation of the Ultrasound department. Ensures prompt and efficient flow of patients through the department coordinating testing procedures with other modalities. The Lead Technologist performs necessary quality assurance tests and monitors overall quality of exams performed daily. Assists in maintaining accurate records of technical staff to assure all licensure requirements are fulfilled. Assists in maintaining logs for maintenance of equipment and schedules service when necessary. Assists with maintaining quality control standards. Maintains inventory levels and assures that sufficient quantities of supplies are on hand at all times. The Lead Sonographer manages and performs all abdominal, gynecological, obstetrical, small parts, peripheral vascular and cerebrovascular ultrasound examinations. The Lead sonographer has an excellent comprehension and knowledge of anatomy and disease and can communicate this to the Radiologist. The Lead Sonographer is trained in the appropriate use of color Doppler techniques and other advanced imaging techniques. The Lead Sonographer is capable of working independently to obtain all necessary clinical information for the Radiologist to make a diagnosis.
