About The Position

This is a Lead Engineering Technician II role within the South Bend Materials Engineering organization. This position will function as a technician in the Materials Engineering CT Xray Laboratory supporting activities across various Aerospace sites. Key Responsibilities Coordinate daily workload in the CT Xray Lab: receive incoming work in Linked Information Management System (LIMS), prioritize work to meet schedule demands, and communicate work status/changes with customers and laboratory members. Utilize CT Xray techniques and software to capture images and/or obtain measurements. Coordinate evaluations and report results through various systems (AECS, LIMS, Powerpoint). Interface with internal and external customers to define appropriate test methods that effectively meet customer requirements. Interpret and read hardware print, process and material specification requirements as related to testing, process and application requirements (i.e. inspection procedures, ASTM, ASM, industry standards). Draft, revise and publish laboratory work instructions in LIMS per MatEng quality documents. Manage consumables inventories. Troubleshoot and maintain CT Xray equipment.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a laboratory environment

  • Ability and knowledge to perform complex CT Xray analysis, obtain images and measurements
  • Ability to read and interpret specification and drawing requirements
  • Familiar with castings, wheels and brakes, fuel and actuation components, engine components, and electronic components
  • Effective documentation and reporting of test results using Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently and resolve difficult problems when they arise
  • Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues to successfully achieve desired results
  • Familiar with laboratory safety practices and experience working with hazardous chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases
