About The Position

Johnson Controls is hiring! We are seeking Lead Engineer that will be responsible for overall technical guidance, system-level design ownership, and engineering execution for HVAC equipment across air handling, fan coil, and terminal unit platforms. This position is onsite based in Largo, FL. Candidates must be commuting distance to the facility, or able to relocate. We offer various relocation packages. How You Will Do It Lead system-level design and technical decision-making across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines. Define product architectures, design concepts, and technical roadmaps aligned with business and manufacturing objectives. Provide final technical authority for complex design trade studies and reviews. Lead, mentor, and manage engineers and designers across multiple disciplines. Assign work, prioritize engineering activities, and balance resources across projects. Review and approve engineering deliverables and provide coaching and performance feedback. Lead new-product development and major design initiatives from concept through production release. Identify technical risks and drive mitigation plans across development programs. Support collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and test teams. Establish and maintain engineering standards and design best practices. Ensure compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. Support DFMEA, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities. Perform mechanical analysis and design of HVAC units, components, and assemblies, including sheet-metal, insulation, fans, motors, heat exchangers and piping packages. Execute design improvements to optimize manufacturability, serviceability, performance, and product quality. Partner with the test laboratory to define and execute test plans validating performance and reliability. Support manufacturing engineering with DFMA improvements to ensure successful transition from design to production. Provide mechanical guidance to applications engineering, sales, service, and field teams regarding product capabilities, installation constraints, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in HVAC or a related product-based manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supervising teams of technical employees.
  • Proven ability to lead complex product development projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering theory, thermodynamics, heat transfer, airflow fundamentals and DFMEA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting prototype builds and laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with commercial HVAC manufacturing processes, including sheet-metal fabrication, fastening methods, insulation installation, brazing, and welding.
  • Experience supporting configurable product platforms.
