Lead Engineer (Remote)
About The Position
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to architect and build the automation engine powering an AI-enhanced governance ruleset within a rapidly evolving DeFi ecosystem. This is a high-impact technical leadership role at an early-stage startup incubated by one of the longest-running and most influential decentralized finance protocols on Ethereum, stewarding $8B+ in Total Value Locked. The role sits at the center of a major ecosystem transformation initiative (“Endgame”), building AI-augmented, malleable tools designed for deep knowledge work and governance at scale. The platform is rethinking governance software through the concept of malleable systems — adaptable, AI-augmented environments that evolve alongside their users. Rather than static applications, these systems are designed to be reshaped, extended, and customized through AI collaboration. The Lead Engineer will build foundational automation systems and data infrastructure in Phase 1, then evolve into architecting deep knowledge-work interfaces and AI-agent infrastructure in Phase 2.
Requirements
- 5+ years building production-grade back-end/server-side systems
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
- Advanced SQL skills with relational modeling (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience building data pipelines integrating third-party APIs
- Working proficiency in at least one of: Python, Go, Rust, or Java
- Without strong backend production experience, advanced SQL modeling skills, and multi-language backend proficiency, candidates should not proceed.

- Systems thinker comfortable with complex governance logic
- Strong backend engineer with data infrastructure depth
- Comfortable designing deterministic, auditable systems
- Interested in AI-augmented development and human+AI collaboration
- Experience working in DeFi, blockchain, or high-integrity financial systems is a plus
