About The Position

This position functions as a lead engineer for the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) and is responsible for the execution of research and development projects relating to materials and process engineering, and commercialization of new technology through integrated design and manufacturing approaches; works closely with academic, government, and industry partners to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project milestones, deliverable requirements and within the cost and schedule agreed upon during project scoping; works with OSU faculty, CDME staff and students to coordinate multidisciplinary tasks; utilizes expertise and leadership in determining technical solutions for complex problems drawing upon personal experience, Ohio State University faculty, outside sources/suppliers, and staff within CDME; ensures disciplined project management processes are followed; travels to customer facilities for project meetings and technology implementation programs; supports professional development and student program activities of CDME in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any direct reports; performs special projects and other duties as assigned. This position will require access to export controlled data and work in an export controlled facility. Eligibility for this position is restricted to “U.S. persons” as defined in U.S. export control regulations. “U.S. persons” include: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as “protected individuals” pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Level Degree: Major: Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 2-4 years experience in a professional research environment including proposal writing and customer engagement
  • experience in a R&D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R&D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions)

Nice To Haves

  • Some combination of: experience and/or training in CAD software; design for manufacturing, operating manufacturing equipment (machining, CNC, metal casting, 3D printing, injection molding, waterjet, etc.); metallurgy; materials testing and sample preparation; industry 4.0 technologies; mechanical design; project management.
