About The Position

GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Engineer that is part of a team that own wind blade structural components. Blade structural components include spar caps, shells, shear webs, bonding, add-ons, root close out, and other features. This Lead Engineer will own technical underwriting and generation of design concepts, specifications, and practices of blade structural components. The areas associated with wind turbine blade structural components includes execution of design concepts, design principles and methods, design values, material partial safety factors, acceptance criteria, and Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for structural components. For these areas, you will be supported by Principal Engineers (PEs) and peers to set and execute field issue resolution, factory issue resolution, and program execution via design reviews. You will collaborate cross-functionally with other designated experts across Design, Systems, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to achieve desired outcomes. You will be responsible for the execution of these priorities. This role requires curiosity, problem-solving skills, and ability to lead design teams will be crucial in ensuring we can technically underwrite that our products and services are of high quality and meet customer needs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in composite component design, composite component testing, or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of composite component design and testing, composite mechanics, composite failure modes analysis, and building-block approach.
  • Experienced with composite prototype building.
  • Familiar with composite manufacturing.
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 20% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD degree preferred.
  • Direct experience with wind turbine blade composite structural design.
  • Knowledge of APQP, TRL/MRL, and statistical process control methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in manufacturing environment alongside operators and laboratory technicians.
  • Proven experience resolving complex technical issues through cross‑functional collaboration and structured problem‑solving tools such as FMEA and RCA / 8D.
  • Knowledge of wind turbine industry standards and regulations applicable to blade structural components.
  • Experience in project execution, translating high‑level objectives into clear, actionable plans and driving disciplined operational execution.
  • Track record of curiosity and passion for identifying, developing, and implementing new technologies, methods, and ideas that result in differentiated product outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Foster transparency, building alignment, and collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize work with a focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • Lead design and technical support for wind blade structural components.
  • Resolve field and production quality issues and support repairs, new product design, and new technology development.
  • Develop manufacturable component concepts and define acceptance criteria.
  • Create and maintain component specifications and design rules.
  • Execute engineering design, analysis, and evaluation using sound engineering practices.
  • Collaborate across Design, Systems, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to solve technical challenges.
  • Perform risk assessments and help develop mitigation plans utilizing a DFMEA.
  • Lead projects, build alignment across teams, and use data-driven judgment to solve moderately complex engineering problems.
  • Work within a psychologically safe culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth through coaching & mentoring for controlled title holders and broader engineering team in your discipline.
