The Lead Engineer for System Protection and Control (SP&C) will be responsible for SP&C Substation designs for the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) portfolio in Maine. This includes input into standards and training needs, overseeing Owners Engineering design reviews for the SP&C Scope related to the NECEC Project, defining P&C criteria, equipment standards, and settings, as well as supporting all commissioning activities for the NECEC project. The position reports to the Manager – NECEC ST, TL, HVDC TL, and will work day-to-day in a cross-functional project team to support project needs as dictated by the project manager.

  • Oversee NECEC engineering performance including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
  • Perform standard and complex electrical engineering analyses, designs, and calculations using standard methodology and principles.
  • Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or improve processes/services.
  • Lead and create new conceptual designs and oversee the work of external detailed designers.
  • Solve unique and complex electrical engineering problems and analyze possible solutions using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering.
  • Ensure all engineering designs implemented meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
  • General contract, commercial, and regulatory awareness.
  • Experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment.
  • Knowledge of SP&C standards in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Expertise in SP&C Engineering standards and specifications up to 345kV.
  • Competitive salary range from $111,000 to $139,431 based on experience.
