About The Position

As a Lead Electrical Engineer at Qualus, you will be responsible for executing design projects from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company practices. This role involves providing technical and sales support for complex power systems, conducting power systems studies, and leading interactions with various functions to determine optimal solutions. You will also be involved in medium and low voltage electrical design, specification development, and project coordination, while adhering to safety protocols and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field from an ABET accredited institution, preferably with a focus on power systems.
  • 8+ years of design engineering experience in primary power distribution, protection and control schemes, and/or electrical equipment.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
  • Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, ANSI C57, ANSI C37, and NESC, and other applicable codes and standards in substation and industrial power distribution design.
  • 2-5 years of AutoCAD experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience using power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to discuss technical recommendations with customers.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Medium and low voltage electrical design including outdoor substations, unit substations, power transformers, and protection and control schemes.
  • Specification development for medium and low voltage electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with CAD staff to develop and update client electrical drawings such as one lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Review field data and perform coordination, short circuit, and arc flash studies.
  • Analyze power monitoring data to provide customer recommendations.
  • Act as a representative of Qualus to support sales during customer site walks.
  • Lead interactions with other functions and locations to determine optimum solutions.
  • Stay current on all safety and technical training.
  • Adhere to all company, industry, and client safety protocols and standards.
  • Assess project-specific resource needs and coordinate assignments with the project manager.
  • Communicate core technical job requirements effectively.
  • Support the immediate supervisor in planning and organizing workload for effective asset return.
  • Coordinate proper project hand-off between sales and operations/engineering.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to discuss work scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing for all engineering projects by providing necessary documentation.
  • Consult and coordinate with suppliers to meet material and equipment needs.
  • Travel up to 30% for training and customer site visits.
