National Grid is hiring a Sub-Transmission Planning Lead Engineer for our Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) department in Albany, NY or Brooklyn, NY. Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate and long-term system planning and asset management direction.
  • Understand and implement electric and budgetary guidance/action on a regional, divisional, and statewide basis.
  • Support activities that address customer technical requirements.
  • Assist regional customer operations and the technical operation of the sub-transmission system.
  • Lead activities in tracking regional sub-transmission reliability performance and promote actions to improve it.
  • Conduct customer and distributed generation studies and interconnection compliance verification engineering activities.
  • Provide technical guidance to customer support organizations.
  • Support other areas of National Grid such as Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, Smart Grid & New Energy Solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for the integration of distributed generation to the electric power system.
  • Represent the company in industry and regulatory working groups.
  • Lead, review, and support products developed by other team members.
  • Train and guide team members.
  • Lead and support an inclusive and professional work environment.
  • Improve modeling and simulation methods, and reporting tools.
  • Improve study processes and methods, as well as record-keeping methods.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of SIEMENS PSS/E power flow software.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
  • Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
  • Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in a Project Management team environment.
  • Ability to adapt approach and tailor messages according to the audience.
  • Ability to build and maintain a network of relationships outside normal business contacts.
  • Personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and non-defensively.
  • Proactive in making changes to improve performance, efficiency and effectiveness of processes.
  • Possess positive expectations for team members and express regard for them.
  • Receptive to change and willing to change ideas or opinions based on new information.
