About The Position

GE Aerospace is pioneering the use of composite materials in commercial and military applications. We are seeking a skilled Lead Engineer to operate, maintain and optimize equipment used to fabricate advanced textile architectures for composite materials. Requirements

  • PhD or Masters Degree with 3 years of experience in Textile Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining textile fabrication equipment (looms, braiding machines, knitting machines).
  • Skills in process control, troubleshooting, and equipment optimization.
  • Familiarity with software for textile design and simulation (TexGen, Abaqus, ANSYS)
  • Passion for hands-on development and laboratory work, with a commitment to advancing materials technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new areas of research.
  • Willing to work on government funded programs.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Must be willing to work on-site at GE Aerospace’s office in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Skills in testing textile properties, including knowledge of industry standards and certifications for textiles and composites.
  • Experience integrating 3D woven textiles into composite materials.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control.
  • Strong track record of tackling complex technical problems and delivering innovative solutions.
  • Experience in a non-academic research environment, with a focus on applied innovation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage advanced textile fabrication equipment such as looms or braiding machines, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, academia and internal teams to add new functionality to textile equipment and improve process efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to design, develop and implement new textile architectures.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions for aerospace applications.
  • Effectively communicate research findings through presentations, technical reports and publications.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through invention disclosures and patents.
  • Participate in government-funded programs, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
