About The Position

Our Network Operations team works around the clock running United’s global operation, safely, reliably and efficiently. From dispatching and routing our fleet to coordinating with maintenance line planning and crew scheduling, this team makes caring connections with our internal customers and ultimately, United’s customers. From pushback to landing, the Network Operations team is the eyes and ears on the ground no matter where in the world your United flight takes you. Job overview and responsibilities The airfield/airspace simulation model practitioner creates fast-time simulation models of United's hubs, line stations, and routes through an iterative process of data collection, data analysis, data processing, stakeholder engagement, and simulation modeling. The airfield/airspace simulation models will be used to support United growth plans along with determining impacts of gate, airfield, airspace, operational, and/or network changes to United's airport operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, computer science, or aviation management; or a field that provides a strong foundation for airfield simulation modeling or equivalent related experience
  • 3 - 5 years related work experience
  • 2+ years of experience working with fast-time simulation modeling specific to airspace and airside operations
  • Familiarity with Air Traffic Control procedures
  • Familiarity with airline operating procedures
  • Airport Master Planning
  • Comprehensive understanding of and ability to use simulation modeling software (AirTOP, TAAM, SIMMOD, etc.)
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to distill complex technical analyses in a clear, concise manner
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willing and able to travel up to 30%
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes, and disseminates airfield operational data through various electronic databases, field verification surveys, and consultation with stakeholders
  • Creates and refines digital models of airports and related airspace, to include aircraft movement and non-movement areas, gate areas, remote parking areas, and arrival/departure procedures for each modeled airport
  • Provides data-driven decision-making support through simulation modeling of proposed airfield construction, new runway construction, airspace redesign proposals, gating proposals, taxi flow changes, and Network-driven demand changes
  • Manages the analysis and data processing of raw simulation model outputs Data analysis will include quantifying raw simulation outputs and interpretation of the data to support decision making
  • Prepares and presents written reports for complex simulation modeling studies, which includes presenting technical information to senior leadership and internal/external stakeholders
