About The Position

Eaton is seeking a Electronic Hardware Specialist to design embedded electronics used in low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers and switching products for the Protection, Control and Solutions business. The role will be located in Moon Township, PA, relocation assistance is being offered. Reporting to the Controls Technology Engineering Manager, you will be part of the Advanced Technology team and have the opportunity to develop, design and improve trip and control units and their capabilities for future circuit protection products. You will work with a team of dedicated engineers and experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to production launch. The primary function is to lead the effort in design and development of embedded electronics for power electronics based circuit protection and switching products. This includes creating functionality related to electronics, embedded firmware, protection, metering, communications, and supporting hardware. In this role you will:

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering field, prefer Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum seven years relevant experience developing embedded electronics

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electronics control development for solid state and hybrid circuit breaker
  • Experience with supporting the transition of designs into a production environment
  • Experience with C and C++
  • Experience with wireless communications systems, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and Zigbee/Matter
  • Experienced with design sharing tools and multi-person development
  • Knowledge of and experience with project tracking tools such as Jira and JAMA
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with circuit design and schematic capture tools, specifically Altium
  • Experience with bus communications: USB, Modbus, CAN, Ethernet
  • Experience with AC power systems
  • Experience with embedded firmware in 8 bit through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC)
  • Experience with Real-time Operating systems (ROS)
  • Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bringup
  • Experience writing and performing detailed test plans
  • Experience in using Digital Occilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Experience in using defect tracking systems and code repository
  • Enjoys hands on work and has experience with lab equipment and safety

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex electronics and embedded design and testing tasks relating to both HW and FW
  • Plan work in detail at individual level, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team, including requirement definition and issue tracking
  • Review own work as well as others work in formal design and quality reviews
  • Test own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals
  • Develop a high level of technical expertise in embedded electronics design and over time becomes a SME for breaker functionality
  • Provide domain expertise to product support personnel to solve field issues
  • Perform and contribute to technical research and investigations
  • Collaborate with teams from Corporate Research & Technology, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources (National Labs and Universities) for technology and product innovation
  • Generate value added intellectual property
