Lead Electrician Job Summary Lead electrical team operations providing technical leadership, system maintenance, and safety compliance for commercial building electrical systems. Supervise electricians while ensuring code compliance, emergency response, and client satisfaction through comprehensive system management and team development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with completed electrical apprenticeship program (4-5 years)
  • Valid electrician's license (journeyman or master level)
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification or equivalent JLL training
  • 5+ years electrical experience with 2+ years supervisory experience
  • Experience with commercial/industrial systems and electrical code interpretation
  • Background in medium voltage systems (115 kV/15 kV) and Kirk Key switching operations
  • Proficient in electrical installation, maintenance, testing equipment, and system troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of motor controls, PLCs, automation systems, and power distribution up to 115 kV
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and interpret technical specifications
  • Understanding of variable speed drives, high voltage switching, and electrical safety per NFPA 70E
  • Experience with boiler controls, powerhouse instrumentation, and substation operations
  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to stakeholders
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities with leadership and team building abilities
  • Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in heights, confined spaces, and various environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master electrician license and specialized high voltage certifications
  • Arc Flash training, NFPA 70E certification, and power system analysis certifications
  • Advanced electrical testing and calibration certifications
  • Experience with 15 kV distribution systems, substations, and 480V switchgear operations
  • Knowledge of advanced test equipment, power monitors, and calibration systems
  • Background in atmosphere monitoring for refrigeration and confined space applications
  • Experience with CMMS systems, predictive maintenance, and emergency power restoration

Responsibilities

  • Supervise electrical installation, maintenance, and repair projects while ensuring NEC code compliance
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical systems, oversee preventive maintenance, and manage emergency repairs
  • Review electrical plans and specifications while planning material requirements and optimizing energy efficiency
  • Maintain high voltage systems (115 kV/15 kV) including switchyard operations and Kirk Key switching
  • Lead and mentor electricians and apprentices while coordinating tasks and monitoring work quality
  • Develop Job Safety Analysis, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and manage electrical team PPE programs
  • Conduct safety briefings, incident investigations, and maintain current code knowledge and best practices
  • Participate in hiring electrical staff and maintain crew certifications and license renewals
  • Interface with clients and property managers providing technical explanations and service resolution
  • Collaborate with HVAC, plumbing, and construction teams in trade coordination sessions
  • Conduct system commissioning, performance testing, and maintain detailed project documentation
