About The Position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead the architecture and development of electronic and computer-based circuit designs and systems for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles in both commercial and Naval marketplaces. Reporting to the Manager of Electrical Engineering, you are responsible for providing technical oversight and review of circuit designs and systems within the department, and performing hands-on circuit development work. This is a key role in the organization that will ensure designs meet all customer requirements, adhere to internal engineering development processes, and meet quality processes and standards evoked internally or contractually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. Prefer 20+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design: low-signal level, sensing, micro-controllers, communications links, and power circuits.
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board development process including board stack-up, component symbol and footprint creation, schematic entry, management of 3rd party layout suppliers, PCB fabrication and assembly drawing creation, and manufacturing process notes.
  • Experience with PCB design tools using MENTOR, EAGLE or equivalent.
  • Proficient with SPICE or other equivalent simulation tools.
  • Proficient at electrical drafting using 2-D drafting tools and cable design tools.
  • Proficient in cable construction, shielding, and grounding.
  • Practical experience with both electrical and mechanical integration is required
  • Experience in providing Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for project development tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electronic system level architectures.
  • Conduct research into the feasibility, operation, and performance of electronic systems.
  • Develop electronic circuit designs: technical specifications, architecture, schematics, oversee layout, test and debug first article PCBs.
  • Develop PCBs with high availability analog, digital, embedded CPUs, and microprocessor circuits for new and existing designs.
  • Address component obsolescence on existing designs and maintain conformance to customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot systems for root cause analysis.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation in accordance with internal engineering standards and/or contract requirements.
  • Participate in reviews of new or existing designs to ensure best practice design principles have been correctly applied, and all specifications and customer requirements have been met.
  • Prepare and present internal and external Preliminary and Critical Design Review activities to demonstrate designs meet all specifications and customer requirements.
  • Adhere to budget and schedule commitments working with Project Engineering.
  • Adhere to best design practices to meet MIL-STD-461 EMI/EMC requirements
  • Ensure designs meeting proper component derating criteria to ensure life cycle quality requirements.
  • Ensure quality through adherence to the Quality Systems Manual, applicable Standard Work Instructions, and other standards evoked internally or contractually.
  • Develop technical performance specifications for supplier equipment procurement.
  • Participate in factory and customer acceptance trials (factory and field).
  • Collaborate with systems, mechanical, and software development teams.
  • Provide engineering support to production staff.
  • Support proposal efforts with task labor estimations.
  • Constructively express opinions and clearly interchange ideas and solutions with colleagues and write in a clear and concise manner.
  • Manage own time and deliver to tight deadlines, following strict project plans.
  • Ability to reverse engineer designs.
  • Ability to test, find root cause, and resolve electrical system issues.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • Work flexible hours and travelling (5-10% may be required).
