About The Position

WHIZZ, a leading provider of cutting-edge transportation solutions for delivery riders, is currently seeking an experienced Lead eBike Mechanic to join our dynamic team in Chicago. As a Lead eBike Mechanic at WHIZZ, you will be responsible for the team, assembly, maintenance, and repair of our eBike fleet. This is a full-time position that requires on-site work at our Chicago location.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as an eBike Mechanic or Bicycle Mechanic
  • Strong knowledge of eBike assembly, maintenance, and repair
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Problem-solving abilities and good diagnostic skills
  • Availability to work full-time hours on-site in Chicago

Responsibilities

  • Bike Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of e-bikes to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues on all bike models.
  • Inspect and repair REPO bikes and Returned Bikes within the required timeframes:
  • REPO bikes — inspected and repaired within internal service targets.
  • Returned Bikes — inspected and repaired within 6 days, with a work order created for each.
  • Assemble, inspect, and prepare new bikes for customer delivery.
  • Ensure all repairs are logged via official work orders in the system.
  • Team Coordination & Supervision
  • Train and onboard new mechanics, ensuring they follow all operational protocols.
  • Supervise day-to-day activities in the workshop, keeping the team focused and productive.
  • Monitor mechanic attendance, and coordinate with HR to report call-outs, tardies, and break compliance (clock-in/clock-out).
  • Motivate team members and provide guidance as needed.
  • Workshop Organization & Inventory
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe.
  • Oversee weekly parts fulfillment — ensure all received parts are properly sorted and stored.
  • Conduct a monthly inventory count of all parts and supplies, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Customer Service & Communication
  • Greet and assist customers in a professional, friendly manner, whether in person, by phone, or via email.
  • Explain e-bike features, safety protocols, and maintenance guidelines to customers.
  • Manage bookings, service updates, and repairs in the system.
  • Process payments and handle basic administrative tasks related to customer service.
