About The Position

The Lead Driver delivers products as requested to New Seasons Market (NSM) stores in the Oregon/SW Washington region while operating a variety of vehicles up to 26,000 GVW. Assists and oversees additional supply chain functions such as fulfilment, receiving and pick-up or drop-off of products to local vendors. Responsible for training and ensuring compliance of driver functions relating to Food Safety, Work Safety and department standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with professional driving and / or supply logistics required.
  • Previous experience of warehousing and fulfilment required.
  • Due to Federal and State Regulations, must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Oregon or Washington State driver license.
  • Valid DOT medical card required.
  • Must provide a pre-employment 5-year driving record abstract (obtainable from DML of DOL). 5-year abstract must be accident free.
  • Subject to DOT post-accident testing and other testing as required.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with ability to respond to urgent job responsibilities as they arise and flexible when priorities redirect.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy, to collaborate, negotiate and communicate effectively and professionally with cross-functional partners at all levels in the company.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment around sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drives NSM fleet vehicles and rental fleet including Sprinter Vans, Ambient Box Trucks, and Refrigerated Trucks up to 26,000 GVW.
  • Delivers bakery and other items as requested to New Seasons Market stores in the Oregon/SW Washington region.
  • Makes special deliveries or pick-ups as assigned in support of small vendor, local vendor, B Line, Greenwheels or other NSM supported programs.
  • Drives established or assigned delivery routes with attention to safety, schedule, and product integrity. Supports Drivers with route efficiency and timing modifications to meet business needs.
  • Partners with team to uphold security of vehicles and docks, performing truck cab inspections and maintaining truck cleanliness. Assists with chaining trucks and training others on chaining process when required. Manages equipment inspections and facilitates repair with 3rd party vendors as needed.
  • Adheres to all food safety/ HACCP procedure and policies. Follows all safety precautions and regulations.
  • Completes and oversees staff completion turns in DVIR’s, and Temperature logs daily.
  • Performs and tracks staff completion of truck inspections and communicates truck repair and maintenance needs to Transportation Supervisor.
  • Communicates delays in routes or deliveries to store teams
  • Assists as needed across all department functions during increased delivery times for holidays, special ads or events. May include assisting with receiving of products or fulfillment of orders for shipment to the stores.
  • Immediately reports any vehicular accident, injury, loss of goods, damage to property or vehicle damage.
  • Operates motorized and non-motorized pallet jacks or other mechanical lift devices and supports the training of other staff in doing so.
  • Coordinates with store or other location personnel at the receiving point and other areas within the stores, docks, or equipment areas. Adheres to neighborhood noise agreements where applicable.
  • Picks up company equipment such as dollies, pallets, totes, and fish boxes.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Maintains cleanliness, organization and rotation of all areas, products and supplies.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy and support staff training and compliance
  • Notifies manager or location specific Manager On Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on a store or other work sites.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
