1. Act as a resource for staff when questions or problems arise. 2. Assist Supervisor and/or manager with the day-to-day operation of the Blood Donor Center and blood drives ensuring effective daily department operations and participate in the staffing process to ensure adequate staffing. 3. Trains, orients and mentors new hires and/or students on procedures and operations of the department. 4. Performs all aspects of whole blood collections, apheresis platelets collections, and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. 5. Prepares reports and statistical data of whole blood, platelets, and therapeutic phlebotomy performed for the department. 6. Performs donor screening to ensure donor’s eligibility per CCHC, CDC, FDA, AABB, and CAP standards. 7. Performs accurate documentation on all blood donor records and data entry including donor deferrals into the computer system and ensures all quality control standards are met. 8. Performs quality control, instrument calibration, quality assurance and improvement, and development of new methodologies. 9. Makes recommendations for workflow practices, improvements in quality and/or efficiency to the immediate Supervisor. 10. Reviews daily QC, cooler transport logs, deferrals, donor cards, donor adverse reactions, and other documents for accuracy, completeness, and in a timely manner. 11. Prepares, sends, and tracks donor deferral letters and physician notifications. 12. Assists with writing and revising SOPs as needed. 13. Performs daily inventory and replenishment of all donor care supplies as needed. Sends a list of supplies to be ordered to the Supervisor or designee. 14. Serves as a resource in responding to donor/patient complications in a safe, timely, and professional manner per CCHC policy. 15. Assists with the design, implementation, and management of quality improvement projects, as well as the evaluation of data and recommendations. 16. Assists with regulatory compliance and inspections. 17. Assists with donor recruitment. 18. Ensures workbenches, testing areas and other work areas in a clean, sanitary, and free of clutter condition for the safety of donors, patients, and staff. 19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 20. Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including but not limited to fire and disaster plans. 21. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers. 22. Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested.
