About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support, supervision, and training to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Community Training Home (CTH). The DSP helps individuals achieve independence, safety, and personal development in accordance with agency values and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Minimum age: 18
  • Clear written English communication
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Positive interpersonal skills, time management, good judgment and accountability
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required

Nice To Haves

  • One year working with individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional behavior and follow agency mission, policies, and procedures
  • Treat individuals and coworkers with dignity and respect at all times
  • Promote an environment that is free from abuse and neglect, respecting the rights and dignity of individuals and coworkers
  • Remain on duty until properly relieved
  • Assist individuals in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles
  • Monitor and report changes in individuals' health and daily routines
  • Support prescribed diets, adaptive equipment use, and safety drills
  • Follow proper lifting and mobility assistance techniques
  • Provide hands-on support with hygiene, grooming, and daily living tasks
  • Prepare meals and snacks based on dietary needs
  • Encourage participation in chores, activities, and life skills training
  • Implement and document Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and behavior programs
  • Complete accurate documentation in Therap and other required forms (e.g., T-Logs, GERs, ISP data)
  • Communicate changes or incidents to supervisors and nursing staff
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect agency-issued credentials
  • Safely transport individuals to activities, appointments, and outings
  • Operate agency vehicles, wheelchair lifts, and restraints as trained
  • Follow agency transportation and safety protocols
  • Administer medications and treatments per agency policy
  • Complete Medication Administration Records (MARs)
  • Support individuals with financial transactions, receipts, and account documentation
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning all rooms of the home – such as bedrooms, common areas, kitchen, and bathrooms.
  • Report maintenance or repair needs
  • Attend meetings and complete ongoing training as required
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the agency’s mission and operational needs
  • Monitor staff-completed MARs for accuracy and report issues in Therap
  • Support Alliant licensing reviews by ensuring all required documentation is complete, accurate, and readily available
  • Plan weekly meals and complete grocery shopping with individual dietary needs and preferences
  • Conduct individual personal shopping as needed
  • Complete and submit household purchase orders and maintenance work orders in a timely manner
  • Provide Rights and Abuse prevention training to individuals in compliance with agency and state requirements
  • Oversee and manage the financial accounts of individuals, including budgeting, receipts, and reconciliation (major responsibility)
  • Maintain current Personal Property Inventory for each individual, ensuring documentation is accurate and items are safeguarded
